Is it just me seeing seat #7 as 'null'?
Bug? or has someone actually got a user name of null?

"null" isn't on the attendance list

It amazed me that quite a few of you have spotted this! :) its a small bug, because Sahdow's username is actually spelled $hadow, it parses his username as a variable (which it null) and displays the result. I quite like the idea that he kinda half does and does not exist, so I've not fixed it yet xD

I'm just wondering if it could be used for any johnny drop tables shenanigans, or to look at data you're not supposed to.

OMG where's the seating plan gone!??!?! All the seats are empty and we get this message at the top of the screen: "\u00a7hadow".
In light of the conversation above, I'm inclined to blame Xcon!

It's entirely possible James might be trying to fix the $hadow issue on the seating plan :)

Unlike most projects (where I write tests and stuff), when editing WestLAN code, I kinda have the "fly by the seat of my pants" attitude and just edit it live on the FTP server (because I cannot get a shell on the server to do more sensible things like source control!).

So, the §hadow issue has been fixed. Oh, the seating plan was never at risk of getting lost, I'd never be _that_ reckless, just the page that told your web browser where the seats were was sending "corrupt" data (invalid JSON) while I was editing. It's fine now :)

Spoiler! The following block of text might contain a spoiler. Click to toggle spoiler
I thought his username was $hadow (and $ in programming languages like PHP has a special meaning - identifier for a variable), it's wasn't the case. For those of you that are technically interested, I was amazed (although I shoulden't be), that PHP strings are _not_ utf8 unicode, but actually cstrings (ie, arrays of byte values, ie: ASCII). Shadow's username with the § character is obviously not in the ASCII charset and the json_encode function takes note of the string type, knowing that § cannot be in ASCII it sets it to 0x0 (NUL), and as it's the first character in the string, the entire string becomes null!

Also, the character was being correctly stored in the database and is being passed around correctly in PHP, but I had to explicitly encode the variable that stores usernames as utf8 (rather than an ANSII string) using utf8_encode. Well, I learned something today - PHP sucks, but I still absolutely love it ;)
