world cup game....

Postby xenobyte666 » Tue Jun 10, 2014 11:51 am

Hello ,

I don't generally pay much attention to football, but I do tend to watch it when the world cup is on..(if only to laugh at them when we lose on penalties)
Now I guess you won't put the england v italy game on the big screen because
A - not everyone wants to watch a bunch of idiots running around chasing a ball.
B - No TV license
C - Better things can be put up on the screen.

So I guess ppl will either disappear to the local pub or try to watch an online stream.
To avoid multiple ppl streaming the same thing Is there any chance one of you nice admin folks can configure a stream that people at the LAN can tune into? Thus avoiding potential bandwidth death...?
Or you could just be bastards and just block the streams ... :(

*awaits flaming*

Whats the 3G signal like in budleigh?

I guess if people want to watch the england game, you'd also want to bring a healthy supply of antidepressants.

I got enough bandwidth from a Three 3G dongle to do most things. Hotspot may be strong enough to stream the match.

i'm going to take a guess, knowing how limited we are on bandwidth that we are going to be pushing it to get you a decent stream! steam is evil!

I think we can just take a common sense approach to this at the event - we're not gonna stream every game, but if there is a popular game like England playing, I'm sure the football-haters can suffer for 90 minutes or so while we stream it. Let us know when the "big" games are, come ask us, and if the projector is free and we don't get too many boos, we'll put the game up ;) I can only promise that we'll try and use common sense - not guaranteeing anything.

If football is a big thing for you and you need to watch the game, then pop to the local pub or something to be guaranteed that you'll see it!

I seem to remember this being asked before for a football or rugby game of some significant important, and the general answer was NO because we do not have a TV licence.

It's true, but if we watch on a legal, online streaming account that allows private broadcasting, that somebody has paid for, then that isn't a problem.

Lets discuss at the LAN :)

Streaming of any live TV requires a TV license.

From the TV Licensing Website

"As long as the address where you live is licensed, you’re also covered to watch TV outside your home using any device powered solely by its own internal batteries. This includes your mobile phone, laptop and tablet."
