As long as you all don't mind getting absolutely destroyed with the sniper rifle on blood gulch, then I'm in. ;)

That sounds like a challenge... I'm in!
Though, I've always played Halo on Xbox, so I'd better dig out the controller!

Does some nice person want to put a dedicated server together?

I'll look into getting an unzip and go package sorted out.. It may require some extra steps though...if it does I'll write instructions..

When you get your facts straight, then perhaps you can comment on it. It's nine year old game. It's not an overnight fix to replace the gamespy master servers, nor is it of the highest priority. You may moan about it as you used to play it. But I doubt you do now, or have done for quite a while.

Freelance wrote:Halo would be fun. IIRC it's one of those games that you can make a simple "unzip and go" version

Here's the 1.10 patch: https://www.bungie.net/7_Halo-PCCE-1010 ... red-HaloPC

I managed to get a zipped up version done that is pre-patched to 1.0.10 , but to get it to run required a fair amount of registry tinkering which i'm not sure how to fully automate..
I don't think people will want to go screwing around with their registry....

Anyway this is how to get it working .. tested it on my PC and Laptop.
(Note - this won't work online....)

1. extract halopc.rar(provided by me) to favored location
2. If you run it now it will stop and say invalid cdkey
3. run halo.reg (provided by me) - adds halo registry key stuff
4. open regedit , assuming ppl are on windows 7 or 8 .. goto Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Halo
5. Select EXE Path and open it, put in the path of where you extracted halo.. then hit ok..
6. Select DigitalProductID and open it , the 3rd line contains the encrypted serial .. change one of the 2digit entries on that line something unique (desk number??), then hit ok.
7. You should now be able to launch the game and join a LAN game without it bitching about invalid serial key.

Does anyone know how to automate this a bit more - some sort of registry scripting that can be added to the halo.reg file that will prompt the user for the install location and desk number?
The alternative to this would be to mount an original ISO, use a keygen to get a unique key, install it, patch to 1.09 , patch to 1.0.10.

Let me know if you want copies of the files to tinker about with....

If you're putting a game together, announce it on the projector ahead of time, tell people to get it off dc and to read/follow the instructions, then smack anyone who whines about the head, or help anyone who asks nicely.

I'm sure you could script it all up in a NSIS installer, and ask the user to pick a random number at install time to concatenate into the relevant registry key.

Yeah or I could just not bother with it... its a lot of effort for a game that people might not be arsed to play.. :P

It also helps to nag people IRL... that projector was useless at rallying the troops for Nighogg, and just look at how much fun everyone had with that. Just go up to people and tell them they're playing XD I'll help force people to play Halo anyday!

Doooo I set your post count manually? Man it's tempting ;)

Xenobytes, I can absolutely help you with that, but I'll not go into details on a public forum. Ping me on steam and we can sort something out :)

The projector is a tool (hopefully one that that vast majority of you enjoy), but there is no substitute for face to face persuasion! :)
