New

Postby Daracon » Thu Apr 29, 2010 6:09 pm

Well, hi all, didn't know where to post this but new here and to the whole lan party thing, hoping to get in for the may event and have a few questions about stuff.
Where is it taking place, will there be places to buy food and drink if it's not avaliable, what happens about sleeping over the course of the weekend and do we bring our own PC's?
Thats a few questions off the top of my head =)

Hello fellow Plymouth member :)

Where is it taking place

The town hall in Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth. Postcode is EX9 6RJ if you want to put it into Google Maps or your sat nav.

will there be places to buy food and drink if it's not avaliable

Tea and coffee are provided free at the LAN, there is a 24 hour (except Sunday) Tesco a 10 minute drive away. People are always making trips and are normally happy to give other people lifts there if they do not have transport. I normally take a couple of our lot up on the Friday night for extra supplies so I can take 1 or 2 extra with me. There is also a free cooked breakfast (in the form of a bap with any combination of sausage, egg and bacon) on Sunday morning for all attendees.

what happens about sleeping over the course of the weekend

Bring an inflatable bed / camping bed and quilt or some sort of underlay and a sleeping bag. The stage is the designated sleeping area and the curtains are shut and lights off normally after midnight so you can sleep. You can sleep in the hall itself but it's not advised due to the noise of 30+ PC's and a load of servers/switches running constantly and also people might trip over you.

do we bring our own PC's?

Yes and all associated peripherals and cables. Network cables are provided by the staff free of charge.

It's old and out of date (hardware wise) but answers a lot of useful questions.

Welcome along :)

We are having a few problems with paypal payments at the moment. Please see: http://forums.westlan.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4162 for a workaround.

If you need transport to the LAN by the way then a few of us go from Plymouth, we could probably spare a seat in return for some petrol monies.

Can't I just buy you an indian instead? I know some cheap ones locked away that you can 'relieve' your "actions" on.
