First Timer

Postby Factory Jackson » Mon Oct 13, 2008 12:01 pm

How can I have missed a LAN group like this

Anyhoo, I'll hopefully be attending this event as a first timer, and ask the vets a few questions:

- general atmosphere, level of competitiveness, wimminz? (j/k  )
- is there a set start / finish time for each day? Or does it just keep going as long as folks are willing to keep chugging the energy drinks?
- beer?
- i'm traditionally a fps console whore. am i likely to be annihilated?
- will there be any vent/ts up? or shall i open up mine to use?
- finally, whats the parking situation like? i live about an hours drive away, but know the roads well cos my significant other went to the farmer college at bicton for a few years. plus, lugging a tower and monitir etc on the train is too much like exercise.

anyway, looks like it'll be a laugh. looking forward to it.

Atmosphere at Westlan is always good in my experience, no set start/finish times for each day (there's ALWAYS someone awake) with the exception of the start and finish times for the LAN (these are pretty rigid for obvious reasons).

As for getting annihilated, all skill levels are represented in most genres, you'll certainly be able to find a game where you can have fun, noone's mega competitive as far as I've seen.

Beer is ok providing you're above the age of consent (obvious I know).

The hall is fairly small, ventrilo/teamspeak are generally not required, if you do feel that one is needed, you're probably welcome to set one up.

There's ample parking just up the road, most people unload their stuff from the small car park at the back of the hall and then move their car to the longer term (and afaik free) parking round the corner.

Think that covers everything, I'm sure if I've missed any points or misled you in any way one of the staffers will be along shortly to correct me.

Yeah just to clarify re parking

Parking is free around the corner in the big car park but NOT in the car park directly behind the hall. Need to emphasise that as people have been caught out and ended up with a fine.

Days don't really start/end. Obviously quiet at 8:00 am but gets going again by 9:00 ish.

I'm a complete n00b at anything (apart from Savage) but I still have plenty of fun.

Game timetables have been tried before but generally people will shout out games. There's 12+ in our group so we will have our own game schedule which others are welcome to join if they wish.

Fresh Meat

well, that lot have already answered most questions... TS/Vent is defo not needed, we just shout abuse at each other, or use ingame chat for covert communications ;)

game timetables are an epic failure, every 3-4 lans the idea comes up again, and it never works out.

we sometimes have some "wimminz" and they all rubbish at gaming, especially [O-CuK] Button...

and i'm off to hide in my bunker now before sal gets me.

Ahh.. Fresh blood. I'm a bit of a RTS player.. so 1v1 at C&C3 is welcome.
