Update your DC++

Postby Jani » Fri Aug 15, 2008 11:48 pm

If you use DC++, it's on 0.707 now, so remember to update to minimise problems at the LAN.

Download like for Winblowz users is here: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfil ... _id=611154

kthnx

Does this version still have to hash everything it bloody sees before it'll do anything?

The way that DC++ hashes stuff sucks. It could simply read the first 512 bytes of the file, filesize and last 512 bytes or something. That would be plenty accurate enough for file sharing, rather than reading a whole bloody 700mb film. 4 threads doing it would also drastically improve things.

Theres clearly a reason doing it though even in the usual local filesharing methods as there would be a plugin or special release.

The only advantage doing it that way is that every file is guaranteed to get a unique checksum. Yet, practically you're looking at under 1% chance of conflicts even if you ignore 95% of most files.

Ah so there would be a 1% chance of the "dont already download" features not working :(, still its fine unless your mike.
