30000 miles and no probs..... works out at 5p per liter.... :D :D :D

Might have to do this and do you bother with the tax?, and are there any specific deisel vehicles that dont run on it. Heard of some others as well that run from chippy fat but If I buy just tons of veg oil brand new do I still have to filter.

I know this isnt the best place to ask but its always nice to talk to someone thats done it for a prolonged period.

That is why I made that statement, xcon was clearly unaware that diesel nearly always works out cheaper.

I get 44MPG in my 1.0l, my parents get 52+ in their 1.8l Diesel

Everybody always quotes the headline figures for MPG and smug over getting more mpg than their petrol equivs.

When looking at my new car, I did calculations on how much it would save over 3 years, on the basis of 40k miles over the time. The (Much) slower diesel worked out about a grand more expensive overall (Higher initial cost, insurance...) and the uprated (115HP vs 120HP on my petrol) was about 2 grand more.

Then when your out of warenty the commonrail diesel engine is more complex (Read more money to diagnose and longer to fix faults) and has more to go wrong (Turbo blowing, for example).

Also, short run economy on a diesel is piss poor.

In some cases (15+k miles per year) it makes sense, but just because your spending less at the pumps doesn't mean your saving money.

The way that you drive has a huge impact on mpg.
Normally i would get 43-44 out of my c220 cdi, but if i drive a bit granny style 68. Then it goes up to 46.5-47.5. But still cost £75.01 to fill the tank up last week!!

at least unlike most boy racer car threads it stayed on the topic of fuel economy and didnt diversify into one of the following topics:

oh man did you see that biatch down cully/exmouth/[insert name of rundown council estate] i was brapping it by in my nova 'n' shit.
