Seating, Payments and suchlike

Postby Wishy » Wed Jan 23, 2008 6:29 pm

Hi all,

Seating
The seating plan will be going online on 30th Jan (Wednesday next week) at some point during the day. If you have paid (Or have pending bank transfers, etc) you'll be able to pick your seats for the event. If a group of people have all paid and wish to be seated together, please email seating@westlan.co.uk.
The system will be closed on Wednesday 6th Feb at 6pm to allow us to print out placemats and have a printout of the seating plan at the event, which is kinda useful ;)

Last payment dates
Last date for payments by cheque and bank transfer is 1st Feb, after which you'll need to pay by something a little more instant.
Last date for online payments (Paypal, Nochex) is Wednesday 6th Feb at 6pm. This ties in with the seating plan. After this date you can still attend the LAN, however you will have to pay the £25 "At door" price. If your intending to do this, please email wishy@westlan.co.uk so I can mark it the system and we have a better idea on numbers.

Other bits and bobs
For the love of god update your steam installs before you leave. Anybody downloading an entire copy of CS:S over the DSL connection will be fed to a tank of hungry parranahs. Check the intranet for steam backup files instead (You'll still need a steam account / licence for the appropriate game to play it)

This will be one of the awesome big ones. Pay soon people, because spaces do go in a massive burst (20 people paying overnight).

20 in a night might be a bit many, but certainly we normally get a lot around the same time as the seating plan going active!

Thats what the extra £5 and no reserved seat does if they don't pay ;)

Ganey,

Its because you paid by Echeque, directly from bank, ie the process is
Set up direct debit mandate (5 days)
Set up direct debit payment (3 Days)
Make payment (0 days, but paypal processes will take time, etc)

Others have paid by debit / credit card, which involves 30 seconds of credit card authorisation and another 30 seconds for an email to be spat out and paypal to go to the westlan webby and update the details automatically.

I've now turned off the option to pay by echeque, I'm guessing that its down to people not knowing they're paying that way rather than not having a debit card. (Can you even setup a direct debit on a non card supporting account?)

Thanks, Sorted nows.

I think on Verification, it changes it to eCheque by itself, all i had to do was add my card again.

Could be. I've never allowed paypal to have bank funding. I just figured its not a company I particularly want to allow to remove money from my bank account.

I believe DD is cheaper than CCard transactions and possibly debit card. They charge the same commission whatever way they do it, so I'm guessing saving 25p over thousands of transactions makes it worthwhile for them.

Total pain in the bum for us, a credit card / debit card transaction is instant and requires no interaction at all from us. Its quite easy to put an echeque through so that it will clear after the lan, which is hardly ideal.
