Looking to upgrade keyboard, unsure about mechanical keys

Postby ManaTime » Wed Nov 11, 2015 3:32 pm

Hi,

So, I have a logitech keyboard (I'll update this when I know what one it is, or if blood see's this he can edit it for me) and its coming towards the end of its life. I'm looking to upgrade to something. As I no longer use my PC for uni work and essay writing I've considered a mechanical keyboard. I've had a try on a couple and really seemed to enjoy them but still unsure what to go for and the exact difference between them all. I understand its the distance between something and something (I'm the non technical admin..)

Some suggestions as to what to buy and why you use yours would be great. Budget isnt a big factor right now, as i'll probably upgrade with xmas money. The only preferance I have is that I have media keys on the keyboard. :)
I'd rather shit in my hands and clap.

Logitech and Razer (don't buy a razer..) now use their own mechanical switches so i can't quite comment on those but most these days use Cherry MX switches.

So far i've personally used blue, black and reds. For gaming, reds win for me but it's all personal preference. My current keyboard of choice is a Corsair K70 RGB (christmas tree edition). The software could be better but the hardware is solid. Their entire range is here: http://www.corsair.com/en/landing/gaming-keyboards

I can understand companies want to sell a premium product rather than a basic generic, but I really wish more companies would do a plain-er mechanical keyboard that doesn't look like aliens have landed on your desk.
I adblock smilies.

Or a cherry G80-3000.

That said, mine seems to be having usb controller issues and often requires an unplug-replug. Probably about 3 years old now...

I likey! Its just the testing of the colours, I'm guessing the Lan is the best time for me to kinda try different switches. But I do like this one.

I gats this one :D
I have brown switches so they're not super loud. You can get o-rings to make them quieter but that's no fun.

Brown's are your best bet, blues are loud enough to wake the neighbours up.

If only they did those keyboards with red switches.

Look out for the new MX Natural White sets. They are meant to be silent. No clicky.
