As I said before I had it at 3.4 before. If got time next week I might push it back up and test it before LAN.
T1M4 is it possible its the mobo you have as I've got the GO stepping as well. but each CPU is different so maybe you just got unlucky.

I might try and see if i can put it past 3.18, just out of interest. As i have some free time this week.
What temps do u get at 3.4??

yeah stock 2.6 and the quad core has two more core's than me, so im suprised it can hit 3gz thats some damn impressive cooling considering its not phase change.

3Ghz is nothing for the 6600s 2 or 4 cores

can't remember what temps were at 3.4 might have been somewhere near 45 or 50. don't recall.

Just had a problem with mup.sys. Had it few weeks before I overclocked and thought nothing of it, but it happened again last night, I had to reset BIOS settings and few others so back on stock atm. Will start overclocking again later in week.

Anyone else had this problem and know an easy way of getting around it without resetting everything and turning USB off? (its not to do with overclocking)

Is overclocking really worth the hassle?
You're risking bricking (probably expensive) hardware to increase it's performance by 1% or something.
I NEEDS MOAR MEGAHURTZZ :)

Imagine the guy who used the liquid nitrogen to beef up a pentium whatever to 5GHz. Oh sure he has a nice video and all, but where did it get him?

Anyway, since overclocking reduces the effective lifetime of a component, people must really want to do it huh?
I suppose they want to get rid of money in the name of experimentation. Ah whatever I'm done thinking about this for now.

Sam, when you consider PC parts can last 5+ years, overclocking only really has a minimal impact on it's lifespan. And tbh, how many people keep their PC's for more than about 3 or 4 years?

Also, parts are speedbinned, so overclocking is just utilising locked up speed. Ok, so my Q6600 got speed binned and set to the stock 2.4 of every Q6600. However, this piece of silicon I have is capable of 3.11 without ANY voltage adjustments.

Other Q6600's will end up with lower max speeds and some higher. Some of the Q6600's will only be able to do 2.45 max so only just passed the binning process.

I've always considered overclocking as something that was done by morons, who only understand hardware and do it to look good. The performance increase from an extra few mhz is minimal. I personally think, if you want a faster chip, buy a faster chip. Skimping out on cheaper components is lame (as althan00b has found out).

overclocking my graphics card gave me a significant difference (its only a fx5200 256mb edition) so its crap, but i broke the memory a bit, so its now underclocked so it works. i cant remember what the difference was, but it was 100mhz higher than what it started at

Done properly and if you have some common sense, it can save you alot of money in the long run.
Instead of buying the best components out there, you buy the middle range and put an overclock on them, all of a sudden, you've got an equivilent chip to the top of the range for half the price.
As for me, i run with a 1GHz overclock - and the difference really is noticeable in practically everything.
As for damaging hardware, Its all so bloody cheap now really that if you do break it, its not hard to replace. The long term aspect is, that you'll most likely upgrade before you ever hit the use by date on any of your hardware - again creating value - You spend less and get more each time.
My 2cents anyway.

That's a well placed 2 cents. Kudos.
