Re: C&C Fans
Yes, and give EA more money for defective games.
The "Disk 2" issue with the last C&C Decade pack was enough to make me think sod buying anything further EA produces

Re: C&C Fans
I'll probably get this if reviews show that the original C&C works on Win7. If LAN play is removed or doesn't function then I'll just go re-install Win98 on my spare PC -.-

VM will do the job quite nicely I suspect. No 3d acceleration required

Re: C&C Fans
i am with Steve on this for now and i hope to be proven wrong.
I already won a lot of these games and dont want to give EA £££ for them unless they work. the decade pack was such a balls up they never even sodding tested it.

Re: C&C Fans
it seems EA wheel the compilation out every time they try to jumpstart the brand again. I wonder how many people getting it "for the convenience" already have it in a 'convenient' format.
I adblock smilies.

Re: C&C Fans
C&C classic, Red Alert and all its expansions works flawlessly on Windows 7. The community patched it's libraries to be 32 bit (Red Alert had some 16 bit libraries, which Windows 7 dropped support for). The patch also adds support for TCP/IP (original version only supported IPX/SPX), we played it with 8 players at the ShinyLAN before last and it was stable.

was going to say similar mark, i hated those games with version mismatch when we all had the same version, or the mem leak in some of the maps (i think it was) if they fix those issues, then maybe worth looking at, knowing EA, they wont have fixed anything, just updated the code to make it compatable

Re: C&C Fans
In their defense, the guys working on the code base for the old games, porting them and updating them for more modern operating systems have a very challenging task ahead of them. It's likely that they were not the one of the original authors, fixing something like those "version mismatches" in the netcode for Generals would be really time consuming and would require the skills of some pretty shit hot developers.

Fine, but anybody buying this boxset is feeding the greed.
