Re: 500Gb SSD?

Evo Rapid mode? That's just RAM Cache, nothing new or exciting there. Windows kinda does it on it's own. The current generation has certainly saturated SATA3. I don't see SATA Express being anything more than a stepping stone - the work involved with extending SATA over to a cable is a pain, and the...

Re: Graphics Card - SLI or Replace

If you're not wanting to game on the bleeding edge then you would ideally wait for the new ones to come out. That way, the current gens on both sides should go down in price. A GTX 760/R9 280 will be faster than a 6850 in crossfire. You also get three years worth of newer tech. Depends how much fas...

Re: Graphics Card - SLI or Replace

The main reason I want to think about it now is the potential replacement of my PSU. I have a 450w that's about 6 years old. It's actually a very good psu, and it will genuinely push 450w - but that's quite tight for an X99 setup. If I SLI in the future I'll definitely be over and should replace.

Graphics Card - SLI or Replace

Hi All, I'll shortly be upgrading my desktop. I'm pondering the graphics (Radeon 6850) - they're ok at the moment, but it's a 3 year old mid range card and its not super in a couple of games. I'm pondering if a second card in SLI is a viable upgrade, or at this end of the market I'd be better replac...

Re: Is it worth getting a CCNA?

I'd tend to look at Juniper cert as a better differentiator -it's a bit more linux and requires more general sysadmin skills If you're looking at "whole stack" knowledge, load balancer (Application delivery controller) hands-on experience has done my career a lot of good. It requires a wid...

Re: Is it worth getting a CCNA?

I was working a lot with cisco at one point in my career, but these days I work for F5 Networks, so there is no real requirement as long as I understand what to tell the network engineers to do. About 20% of my job is now recruitment and technical interviews. Again, we're not a Cisco shop, so we're ...

Re: What does everyone think of these parts?

The case seems rather large for a lan rig. I'd go for something standard tower size, especially when you've not got a huge number of hard drives or a large graphics card

Would recommend a larger SSD. The evo is good, but if budget is tight then a crucial mx100 would be on my shopping list

Re: Recommend me a NAS enclosure

Ok, the Synology unit is quite a bit more than I hoped to pay, and it's also slightly overkill for my needs. It does not need any sort of media streaming, transcoding etc support at all. It's literally going to serve files and that's it, I just need to get the drives out of my PC and have them onli...

Re: Recommend me a NAS enclosure

I'm a very happy synology user, so I'd recommend a 414j if your budget can stretch. They're very capable and hassle free boxes. You can do things slightly cheaper using a microserver and a copy of the synology server (Exact legality unknown, but synology certainly don't support it) - but it's probab...

Re: world cup game....

Can I vote NO on football? Its bad enough having to put up with it for the next month at work, let alone when I'm trying to enjoy myself :P I'm pretty much with this. Could I suggest going down the pub as a far more fun experience. The internet connection is unlikely to give you a decent stream, yo...

Re: Dreamhack winter 2014

I can highly recommend a few days in Gothenburg, very chilled and the flights were excellent value.

There aren't the same number of fancy museums as stockholm, but a decent selection. Lots of independent shops too (Including a Totoro shop)
