Help for building a rig!

Hey y'all! I know a little about the ''tech side'' of computer building, but am basically a total newb, so I'm deferring to all of y'all expert judgement on the topic :) So... What do I need it for? Heavy duty 3D work mainly (both real time 3D production like VR and game design, plus rendering), plu...

Re: May the Gods of WesLAN save me!! :( (corrupted file reco

Hey peeps, thanks for the response! However, the Gods have smiled and granted me a solution! The issue is very convoluted and extremely niche... But I guess for posterity, I'll go ahead and say what it was, just in case anyone else encounters the same set of events... So I had about 10 corrupt files...

May the Gods of WesLAN save me!! :( (corrupted file recovery

Hello everyone! I am a desperate desperate man in need of some serious tech help. I'll start with the SUPER TL;DR... ... how does fix .movs? Normal TL;DR: Video Camera (Canon 550D). Brought a naff SD Card which didn't have enough write speed. Sometimes... It would record fine. Other times, the recor...

Looking for cheap(ish) cameras to catch SOB car keyer!!

Sup G's So a friend of mine lives on a main road in our local area. For years now, we have driven up to his place and parked outside his house. However, about 3 weeks ago, and now TONIGHT, both mine, Crimson Ryan and Dark Davies (my fellow LAN goers) cars have been keyed whilst parked outside. Suffi...

Re: Advice on setting up a render farm :)

Hi people Sorry for the late response.... Am inundated with a shit ton of work right now >.< Firstly, as to the issue of the whole GPU vs CPU thing. I DO like the look of iRay, but don't know wether I'm totally sold (the other NVIDIA site was not compatable with C4D). If C4D had a natural in-built o...

Re: Advice on setting up a render farm :)

Yoooo xconspirisist Thanks for the detailed response! I'll address your points... 1st point - As to grid / multi-node application environment. Advice on setting up a render farm :)

Hey peeps. I'm currently looking into building a 6 node render farm and have absolutely NO idea where to start (I must stress hardcore my newbishness at this sort of thing). Hence I thought I'd do a little post here, as you LAN folks have always been a font of knowledge with computer issues and have...

Room for my full rig?

Due to my setup, I'm going to need 30ft+ of table which can support 500 pounds of weight for my triple Elephant setup. Is this ok? Why do I need 3 Elephants? Because you haven't experienced gaming untill you have played games whilst having 3 Elephants by your side! 3 Elephants makes multitasking ver...

Re: A question about upgrading my RAM :)

Aah I've heard of these SSD's (Solid State Hard Drives right?) I know they are supposed to be like... All singing all dancing hard drives ^^, but that's where my knowledge of them ends :) So in what way would a SSD benefit me? Plus I am pretty sure RAM is an issue in terms of bottlenecking as I ofte...

A question about upgrading my RAM :)

Hey peeps.... Let me first preface by saying I'm a total tech newbie when it comes to computers, so go easy on me ^^ ... So I was thinking of upgrading my RAM from my current 6GB, to around 16 / 24 GB. Reason being, I'm currently working freelance in the fields of 3D animation and VFX. Real intensiv...

Re: Anybody fancy a challange of trying to fix a broken HD?

Yeah, I have another actually 'working' Hard Drive on stand by ^^, for if we do temporarily get the blighter working, we can transfer all the data off of it to the new one ASAP (or as close to ASAP as possible consider there's about a Terabyte worth of stuff in there ^^). I think the point of a 'per...

Re: Anybody fancy a challange of trying to fix a broken HD?

Haha, that's the 'ass' thing.... This Hard Drive WAS the backup. All my PC's information safely stored and backed up on it, then came the time when I decided to do a complete system restore / reinstall windows / wipe everything thinga'majig on the PC. After which, said process was complete, I went t...

Anybody fancy a challange of trying to fix a broken HD? :p

Oy Oy people. An external Hard Drive of mine has recently rather stubbornly decided it no longer wishes to work. I have taken it to a few friends + PC world, all of whom have been stumped for a solution as to how to get it back working again ^^. So I thought I'd bring it along to the LAN ^^ Anyone w...

Minibud? :p

Hey peeps
So me and my friends were brought to tears over the 6 month wait from SaltLAN 24 to 25 :D
But now I check back on the website and I see this thing called 'Minibud'!? :p

So whats the deal with this so called 'minibud' as opposed to a regular LAN? Asides from being smaller ^^
