Re: Replacing an X1950 Pro...

Cheers all, in the end I went with a second-hand 5770 as suggested. Fitted and working - anyone want to buy a "hardly used" HD5450? :-p

Is that including the dead spider, or would that be extra?

Re: Replacing an X1950 Pro...

I suppose the question is, will it actually let me play Portal 2 / CS:S / HL2 / GTA:IV at 1920 x 1200? I was amazed that the HD5450 didn't - being so many years newer than my X1950. I guess it's position - the X1950 was 'high end' in it's day whereas the 5450 is 'entry level' even if several years d...

Re: Replacing an X1950 Pro...

Thanks all for the advice. The 6850 iMess linked to is £90, which I'm sure is a good price (cheapest elsewhere is at least £100) but more than I really want to spend considering how little use it will get, and that my X1950 was doing me fine until it went pop. Would something like a 6670 be a good c...

Would something like a 6570 2GB be any better?

Replacing an X1950 Pro...

So one of my reasons for not having made it to the last two WestLAN's I'd intended to try and get to has been PC problems! Lots of issues I've just not had the time to resolve but suffices to say I've effectively not had a working PC since before Christmas and have been managing with my work laptop ...

Re: Post LAN thread

Would also like to thank everyone for a good weekend. Hope to make the next one too... fingers crossed! It's been a couple of years since I managed to make it so the bacon sausage and egg baps are a new (and most welcome) feature to me! The BBQ on Saturday was great too - thanks to everyone involved...

Has anyone watched Fringe? I've just watched the first season and it's pretty good - definately worth trying a couple of episodes at least.

Re: Hard Drive Cache Size

Thanks Wishy. The Samsung Spinpoints had seemed to be the cheapest 750GB's for a while at about £59 so those were what I was going to go for, but the cheapest I can find now is over £70 - then I saw this offer on Aria today: https://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/1TB+Western+Digital+Caviar+-+Green+Pow...

Hard Drive Cache Size

Hi All, Hope you're having a good LAN - unfortunately I couldn't make this one either, but I've already booked the time off for the June one :) A quick question: how much difference does hard disk cache size *really* make - for drives just being used for bulk storage of files? I've been looking at r...
